Sonita was a kingdom in ancient India. It was an eastern kingdom being ruled by the Asura king Banasura. The capital of the kingdom was Sonitapur (Sonitpur).
Geography
Sonita kingdom was on the banks of the Lauhitya river. To the southwest of Sonita was the Pragjyotisha kingdom and to the northeast was Lauhitya kingdom and Aruna Parvata. To the north of Sonita kingdom was the Himalaya and Kailash mountains. To the east was eventually Karatoya river.
Bhima’s Eastern Military Campaign
During the end of Bhima’s military campaign, he sent an army to defeat the eastern kingdoms of Sonita and Lauhitya.
